Goal

Develop a web-based mobile friendly version of CDC’s Physician’s Handbook on Medical Certification of Death (2003 revision) that incorporates Progressive Web App (PWA) concepts.

Summary + Outcome

To improve the quality of mortality data collected by NCHS, IIU was asked to examine CDC’s Physician’s Handbook on Medical Certification of Death (2003 revision) – to see if a mobile version could be created – to facilitate the handbook’s use by healthcare providers. A responsive-designed web application was created based on CDC’s Physician’s Handbook on Medical Certification of Death (2003 revision).  The responsive-designed web application was built as a prototype to test and demonstrate the principles of progressive web apps (PWA) using Google Polymer. Polymer uses web components and provides a set of Polymer elements that helps developers to build build mobile friendly web applications with PWA features rapidly, in addition to letting developers create their own custom reusable HTML elements.
